Dementia care at home
Dementia care at home helps a person living with Alzheimer's or another dementia stay in familiar surroundings for longer. Caregivers support daily routines, personal care, meals, safety and meaningful activity.
Look for PSWs with training such as Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) or experience with responsive behaviours, and consistency — seeing the same caregiver each visit reduces confusion.

Frequently asked questions
Can someone with dementia live at home safely?
Often yes, especially in the early and middle stages, with the right supports, a safe home setup and regular caregiver visits. Needs change over time, so review the plan regularly.
What training should a dementia caregiver have?
Ask about dementia-specific training such as GPA, experience with responsive behaviours, and whether the same caregiver can attend consistently.
Where can families get more support?
The Alzheimer Society of Ontario and local chapters offer education, support groups and First Link referrals.
